Imbuto Plantation Farm is a sustainable agriculture initiative transforming food insecurity into self-reliance for refugee families through farming, training, and natural food production.
Over 58,000 residents face overlapping challenges that create long-term dependency on humanitarian aid.
Heavy reliance on humanitarian food aid creates long-term vulnerability and limits self-reliance for thousands of families.
Limited access to fresh, diverse, and nutritious food directly affects the health and well-being of refugee families.
Lack of agricultural training and resources prevents families from growing their own food sustainably.
Few income-generating opportunities restrict economic independence, especially for women and youth.
Three integrated pillars that work together to build lasting food security and economic independence.
Commercial-scale farming producing leafy vegetables, tree tomatoes, beetroot, carrots and herbs for local markets and processing.
Custom-designed household gardens — raised beds, vertical systems, compost, irrigation — installed and maintained with full training.
Centrally managed production of Imbuto Splash natural juices — Tree Tomato & Beetroot — plus packaged fresh produce lines.
We are seeking $50,000 in seed funding to launch operations and serve 300 households in Year 1.
Born in Mahama, built for Mahama — a community-led solution to food insecurity and dependency.
Imbuto Plantation Farm is a sustainable agriculture social enterprise operating in Mahama Refugee Camp, Kirehe District, Rwanda. We were founded with a singular belief: that refugee families deserve not just food aid, but the skills, tools, and opportunities to feed themselves.
The name "Imbuto" means seed in Kinyarwanda — because every initiative we run plants a seed of self-reliance, nutrition, and dignity in the community.
Our tagline "Grow to Thrive" captures our belief that growing food is not just about nutrition — it is about building confidence, skills, income, and community.
A world where refugee communities are empowered to grow their own food, build resilient livelihoods, and lead thriving, self-reliant lives — no longer dependent on outside aid.
To build a sustainable agriculture ecosystem combining crop cultivation, household gardens, and quality food processing — transforming aid dependency into food security and economic opportunity for refugee families in Mahama Camp.
